Will Howard and Bricolage featured in Sunday Times

Our self-built family home at Castlands Road has been featured in The Sunday Times this week!

It follows the story of how we built Castlands Road, a three-bedroom house on a small back-garden plot in Catford. The piece traces the project from hundreds of handwritten letters, through to self-delivery without a main contractor, using bio-based and reclaimed materials and a hands-on, incremental build approach.

Built using bio-based and reclaimed materials, the house prioritises simplicity, legibility and long-term performance. The structure is honest and visible, finishes are minimal, and the building is designed to be airtight, low-energy and adaptable over time.

Castlands Road is not presented as a one-off, but as a working proposition for how small urban sites, patience and hands-on making can still deliver robust, affordable family housing in London today.
